Street Beautification

Beautification is all about keeping the physical environment of The Shipyards District in great shape to ensure that the area is the best place in which to work and visit.

The Shipyards District is a clean, graffiti-free and safe community which now features urban street gardens, sidewalk garden boxes, colourful laneways, an expanded patio culture and an abundance of social gathering spaces. This beautification has been a priority for the BIA, its members and the City of North Vancouver as this bourgeoning area has developed into a vibrant waterfront neighbourhood. Not only do these enhancements create a positive impression on visitors, it is a direct reflection of the pride local area residents and businesses have in their community.

COLOURFUL BANNERS

In April 2018, The Shipyards District unveiled the district’s look and brand. To demarcate the neighbourhood and enhance the ambiance of the streetscape, making the neighbourhood more inviting and attractive, TSDBIA installed 100 colourful street banners along with a 400-square foot The Shipyards District welcoming gateway banner on the Esplanade pedestrian overpass

SHIPYARDS GARDEN DISTRICT

In 2018, The Shipyards District BIA teamed up with, and commissioned, North Vancouver’s Lifespace Gardens to introduce the Shipyards Garden District – an innovative and environmentally friendly community-focused program about growing organic food into the urban lifestyle. If you look around the neighbourhood you’ll spot 26 (and counting) blooming business and community garden boxes designed to both beautify the district and grow community spirit and pride.

PRIORITIES

Your BIA will continue to enhance The Shipyards District while recognizing and protecting our unique shipyards heritage. We will work closely with businesses, the community policing office on addressing graffiti, panhandling, shoplifting and safety concerns and work with the City of North Vancouver, Translink and other stakeholders on creating a more welcoming presence at SeaBus and bus exchange. As the district grows and densifies further The Shipyards District BIA will closely monitor and ensure the new beautification standards are not only maintained, but further enhanced.
