Artist – Led Tour: Friday, February 24, 3:30-5pm

Artists: Artists: Aynaz Parkas, Vitória Monteiro, Keimi Nakashima-Ochoa North Van Arts is proud to present “To fold; To fault,” an exhibition featuring the works of three interdisciplinary artists who are pushing the boundaries of contemporary fibre-based mediations. The exhibition explores the theme of creative labour as a form of knowledge production, with each artist presenting their unique perspectives on translating and presenting bodies of knowledge through their art.

The exhibition is an exercise in changing the way knowledge is transferred, taking systems that are usually presented as separate branches and presenting them as something that is shared, interdependent, and easy to experience. The artists use materials mostly with plant and animal fibre (pieces that are usually labelled as crafts) and present them as contemporary in formal art spaces, looking to both breakdown and reimagine the boundaries between “art” and “craft.”

The artists inspect, critique, deconstruct, and construct how families, cultures, and society view art and knowledge, based on western norms. The artworks created explore how multiple facets of perception like what you are taught in school, by your family, and society should be observed as a united entity, instead of being siloed.
