Welcome to Heritage Week!
Each year, Heritage BC declares a theme for Heritage Week, with the 2024 theme set as ‘Layer by Layer’. What better way to explore the layers of stories across the North Shore region than with the North Shore Culture Compass!
One of the benefits of an online map is that layers of history not visible on the land can be revealed. So we worked with partners and created a new Treasure Hunt, launched for Heritage Week and continuing through spring break to the end of the Easter long weekend.
We invite all ages to get out and experience local culture and heritage, layer by layer. The Treasure Hunt follows the North Shore Spirit Trail in the direction of the sun. Six places along the trail reveal layers of stories: about the Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh people who have been taking care of this place since time immemorial, about the settlers who arrived just over 200 years ago, and about the people who now live in and share this special place.
