The words and music of a self described, “Foolish Man”, the late David King (1949-2021) will be celebrated at Presentation House Theatre on November 13, a single matinee performance beginning at 2 PM.
In his lengthy career as a playwright, David accomplished twenty-five premier productions and won two Jessie awards, for “Garage Sale”, and later “Life Skills,” which he performed with Nicola Cavendish, one of many projects on which they collaborated. A former writer for CBC variety shows in Vancouver and Winnipeg, David also wrote the film scripts for “Harmony Cats” and the Gemini-award winning, “For Gentleman Only”.
Though he started as a drummer in a neighbourhood teenage band in Winnipeg, David didn’t resume an active music career until he moved to the Sunshine Coast in the early 2000’s. In all he wrote the uniquely clever lyrics and the music for more than fifty songs, many of which will be featured in the stage show created and produced by popular singer Wanda Nowicki. Wanda will also perform, along with Peter Hill, David’s former partner in the Foolish Man duo, David’s nieces Amy King and Emily Jane King, actors Dave Hurtubise and Janet Hodgkinson along with a full band.
