Senior secondary students nominated from the North Vancouver and West Vancouver School Districts had the opportunity to work with artist-in-residence Karen Zalamea for a three-day photography workshop. In the workshop, students considered how photography impacts our relationship to place. Students engaged with the rich resources at the Archives of North Vancouver (MONOVA) and worked with historical photographs, maps, and plans from the archive and combined these with their own location-based photographs. The resulting artworks took on diverse forms, incorporating weaving, paper folding, hand stitching, and digital collage.
The artwork is on display at The Shipyards and on April 19th, several students, as well as artist Karen Zalamea, will lead a tour of the artwork on display. Free outdoor event. For more information, visit Capture Photo Fest.
