A community that grows together, grows together

Lower Lonsdale BIA and North Vancouver’s Lifespace Gardens have teamed up and introduced the Shipyards Garden District – an innovative and environmentally friendly community-focused program about growing organic food into the urban lifestyle. If you look around the neighbourhood you’ll spot urban gardens blooming all around the flourishing area.

The Shipyards Garden Planters

It all started by planting a few seeds

The BIA commissioned Lifespace Gardens to build 20 of their signature self-watering and cedar-crafted garden boxes, which have been loaned out to area businesses to care for, along with another eight large permanent boxes installed on city streets. This not only has a charitable cause, with all harvested produce going to nearby food banks – but also many positive impacts on the neighbourhood, bringing people together by beautifying the streets and establishing a sense of camaraderie and pride in ownership.
