The Lonsdale Energy Corporation (LEC) is a district or community energy system producing and supplying reliable, efficient, and competitively priced hot water-based energy services for space heating and domestic hot water use to over 100 residential, commercial, civic, and institutional buildings in the City of North Vancouver’s Lower Lonsdale, Central Lonsdale, Marine-Harbourside and Moodyville neighbourhoods. Wholly owned by the City of North Vancouver and incorporated in 2003, LEC’s Mini-Plants produce thermal energy using a combination of high-efficiency natural gas boilers and renewable energy sources, including solar thermal panels; geo-exchange and the recovery of waste heat, delivered via an underground pipeline network.
