Inspired by the themes in the Summer 2021 exhibition Interior Infinite, which centred on masquerade and disguise as strategies for revealing rather than concealing identity, Ensemble brings together five short films by contemporary artists that are situated at the rich intersection between Black culture, costume, and dance. Across these films, calls for justice underscore a visuality that foregrounds Black joy, power, and imagination.
Featuring short films by Nick Cave, Steffani Jemison, Athi-Patra Ruga, Yinka Shonibare CBE RA, and Rhea Storr.
Runtime: 80 minutes
Ensemble will run from February 23-March 13, played on a continuous loop during gallery hours, Wednesday-Sunday, 12pm-5pm, with special after-hours accessibility on Thursdays until 8pm.
Note that the screening will be closed on Saturday, March 5, as The Polygon hosts activities for children on the first Saturday of every month.
